Minyoung ("Marie") lives and creates near Chicago. Her works are a visual exploration and an attempt to understand life and our connection to the material world.

Where do we go when we sleep? We temporarily surrender ourselves - detaching from the physical world to enter into an unknown realm. Intrigued by the idea of sleep, dreams, and the liminal space in our half-awakened states, she has spent many years thinking about the purpose and meaning behind them, about her relationship with surrender, and recorded her dreams and inspirations that come from those transitional awakening states. She continues to seek answers about the mysteries of this unknown dimension.

The latest works consist of small scale oil pastel studies in the Messy Bed (2nd) Series, in which she depicts colorful, messy beds - a safe place and "sanctuary" reserved for this quiet and solitary journey.

She takes inspiration from her travels around the world and experience immersing in different cultures from a young age. This, coupled with a deep longing for a universal truth that can ground her wherever she is and however displaced she feels, has instilled in her a longing to create something that feels like home.
